Karman Ugo Rilla Gorilla Wall Lamp - Grey Ceramic

A gorilla's head, hung like a hunting trophy

Karman's Ugo Rilla plays on the old cliché of a mounted animal head on the wall, except here it's a gorilla, sculpted in ceramic, holding onto three lamp cables like they're the last branch on the way down. It's one of the more overtly playful pieces in the Zoo collection, designed by Matteo Ugolini, and it works as a conversation piece as much as a light source.

Grey ceramic

The grey ceramic finish leans into the fitting's trophy on the wall joke a little more than the white version does, giving the fur texture more visual weight and a slightly moodier presence after dark. It reads well against darker or warmer wall colours, where the tonal contrast with a pale ceiling or trim can make the sculpted texture stand out more clearly.

How it works

Three fabric flex cables, gripped in the gorilla's fist, each take one E27 bulb, for three bulbs in total. Karman rates each bulb at a maximum of 10W if using LED, and recommends plastic, shatter resistant bulbs given the exposed fitting. Bulbs aren't included. It's wired directly to the mains as a fixed wall light, not a portable lamp.

Where it works best

Grey ceramic suits darker, more atmospheric interiors: a snug, a bar, a restaurant with moody lighting, or a hallway painted in a deeper colour where a plain white version might disappear. Give it a clear run of wall so it isn't competing with artwork or other fittings nearby.

Karman and the Zoo collection

This piece belongs to Karman's Zoo collection, the ceramic animal head wall lights that have become one of the Italian brand's signatures internationally. Karman is based in Fossombrone, in the Marche region, and describes its production as Italian made from raw material through to finished piece.
