Karman Moby Dick Small Pendant - Matt White

A smaller whale, cast in fiberglass

Moby Dick takes the silhouette of a breaching whale and renders it in white fiberglass, smooth on the outside and left rough within so light escapes unevenly rather than in a flat wash. Designed by Matteo Ugolini, this is the more compact of the two indoor Moby Dick pendants, keeping the same curved form at a size that suits smaller rooms.

The small size

At 82cm long, this size sits comfortably where the big pendant would dominate, over a bedside table, a reading nook, or a narrower dining setting, without losing the sculptural detail that makes the design distinctive.

How it works

It's a ceiling mounted pendant that takes a single E27 bulb, compatible with incandescent, halogen or LED sources, up to a maximum of 70W. It's a fixed, hardwired fitting, supplied ready to be wired in.

Where it works best

Suited to bedrooms, snugs, home offices or smaller dining spaces, anywhere a ceiling pendant is wanted but a 150cm fitting would be out of scale. It's an indoor fitting and a fixed installation, so check ceiling height and intended drop before ordering, standard domestic ceilings of around 2.4m upward work well.

Karman craftsmanship

Karman has been working with fiberglass, resin and other unconventional materials from its base in Fossombrone, in Italy's Marche region, since 2005, and Karman states its lighting is made entirely in Italy. This smaller Moby Dick brings that same sculptural approach to rooms with less space to spare.
