Karman Maoo Cat Wall Lamp - Matt Charcoal Grey

A cat, a mouse, and a bit of Karman mischief

Maoo is built around a small joke: a cat, sculpted in ceramic, appears to leap across the wall towards a glass sphere lampshade with a mouse shaped sticker glowing inside it. Designed by Matteo Ugolini for Karman's Zoo collection, it's a genuinely playful piece that works equally well hung on a wall or set down on a flat surface.

Matt charcoal grey ceramic

This version pairs a matt charcoal grey ceramic cat with black aluminium fittings and a frosted glass sphere, giving it a more graphic, higher contrast look than the brand's paler colourways. The dark cat reads clearly against most wall colours, while the frosted sphere still glows softly once lit, so the mouse silhouette stays the focal point after dark.

How it works

The glass sphere takes a single G9 bulb, rated to a maximum of 5W if using LED, and the bulb isn't included. Maoo is designed to work either as a wall light, fixed and mains wired, or set on a desk, bedside table or any tabletop surface, which makes it one of the more flexible pieces in Karman's Zoo range.

Where it works best

Its small scale and playful character suit spaces where you want a bit of personality without a large piece: a child's bedroom, a study, a bathroom, or a bedside table if you're using it as a tabletop lamp instead of mounting it. It also works well as a pair, one on each side of a mirror or headboard.

Karman's Zoo collection

Maoo belongs to Karman's Zoo collection, the range of ceramic animal themed lights that has become one of the Italian brand's most recognisable signatures. Karman is based in Fossombrone, in the Marche region, and describes its production as Italian made throughout.
