Karman Lilly Table Lamp - Transparent Glass

A clear voile of glass, the light fitting on show

Lilly is a table lamp built almost entirely from glass: base and shade in one continuous, curving silhouette designed by Giorgio Silla. In this transparent version, the blown glass is shaped almost like a voile, thin and clear enough that the double light fitting inside the base and shade is visible through it, rather than hidden behind an opaque surface.

Karman describes this finish as a transparent veil of blown glass, molded to reveal the double light fitting housed within both the base and shade. Rather than diffusing the bulbs, this version puts them on display, so the fitting itself becomes part of the lamp's character, especially once it's switched on.

How it works

Lilly takes two E27 bulbs, up to 18W each if using LED, rated IP20 for indoor dry use. Bulbs aren't included, and because they sit in full view through the glass, it's worth choosing a shape and finish you're happy to have on show.

Where it works best

With the fitting visible through the glass, this version works well as a feature piece in its own right, on a console table, sideboard, or bedside table, wherever you want the lamp itself to draw the eye rather than blend in.

The name behind the lamp

Karman names the collection after Lilly Reich, the Bauhaus era German architect and exhibition designer known for her work with Mies van der Rohe, including the glass focused "Glass Room" exhibition. Reich's fascination with glass as a material in its own right feels especially close to this version, where the glass is the lamp rather than a cover for it.
