Karman Aprile Fish Wall Lamp - Matt White

A fish in full bloom on your wall

Aprile is Karman's playful ode to spring: a fish shaped wall light in ceramic, its scales swapped for flowers and its fins reimagined as leaves, so the whole piece looks like it's blooming rather than swimming. Designed by Matteo Ugolini for Karman's Zoo collection, its name plays on the Italian for April, arriving each year with the same cheerful, slightly daft energy as an April Fools' trick, half fish, half garden.

Matt white ceramic

Finished in matt white, Aprile keeps its raised floral detailing legible without competing with the wall behind it, the petals and leaves catching soft shadow rather than colour. It's a finish that suits a bright hallway or bathroom as easily as a bedroom, and pairs with almost any wall colour without a fight for attention.

How it works

The fish's single eye is the light source: one E27 bulb, rated to a maximum of 52W, sits behind it and isn't included. Aprile is wall mounted and wired directly into the mains, so it's a fixed fitting rather than a plug in light.

Where it works best

Its modest size and single point of light make Aprile a good fit for a hallway, landing or bedroom wall where you want personality rather than a main source of light. It also works well grouped with other Karman Zoo pieces, or on its own as a quiet talking point above a console table or bed.

Karman's Zoo collection

Aprile sits within Karman's Zoo collection, a series of characterful ceramic animal and creature lights designed largely by Matteo Ugolini for the brand. Karman states its pieces are made using entirely Italian materials and craftspeople, from raw ceramic through to the finished glaze.
