Deco Light for a Big Room

Fargo takes its geometry from the Art Deco period, bent white art glass with a diamond pattern that shifts colour with the light, and this inverted pendant puts three lamps behind it at the largest scale in the range. Rather than casting light downward, the shade faces up, so the whole fitting glows from within and lifts the ceiling around it.

The Large Size, Turned Upward

Fargo runs across floor lamps, table lamps, wall lights and several pendant styles, and within the pendants this inverted fitting is the largest, sharing its fifty centimetre shade with the Fargo Floor Lamp and the standard 3 Light Pendant. Choosing it over those two comes down to whether you want light thrown down onto a table, as with the standard pendant, or bounced up and out for a softer spread, which is what the inverted shade is built for.

Where It Works Best

The upward facing shade and wide 50cm diameter suit a living room or open plan space with some ceiling height to spare, somewhere the light is meant to fill the room rather than pool over a single surface. Against the standard 3 Light Pendant in this range, which drops light down onto a table, this inverted version is the better fit for a seating area or a hallway where general ambient light matters more than a bright pool below the fitting.

Interiors 1900 has made Tiffany style lighting since 1983, and while Fargo takes its cues from the Art Deco era rather than the turn of the century originals, the same hand assembled approach to glass runs through both. Each Fargo shade is built from individual pieces of bent art glass, so the pearlescent white finish shows small, genuine variation in tone and soldering from one fitting to the next. The company is part of the Poole Lighting group, alongside Endon and Saxby, sitting at the more decorative end of that group's collections.
