Three Lights, Facing Up

The Large Inverted 3 Light Pendant turns the usual downlight arrangement on its head, quite literally, with three uplit shades set in a ring so the glow washes up and across the ceiling before spilling back into the room. It is the boldest hanging shape in the Dragonfly Blue range.

Why The Inverted Shape Works Here

Facing the shades upward changes how the blue and green glass reads in a room. Instead of a pool of colour cast downward, the light bounces off the ceiling first, softening the effect and spreading it more evenly across a larger space. At 500mm across, it suits open plan living areas and dining spaces with enough height for the fitting to hang properly clear of head height.

How It Works

The pendant hangs on a height adjustable 1 metre chain, giving a drop of 600mm to 1000mm, with a 500mm diameter shade. It takes 3 x 60W E27 (GLS) lamps, not included, and is dimmable with a suitable dimmable LED lamp and compatible dimmer. The fitting is finished in a dark bronze effect and rated Class 1.

Where It Works Best

Compared with the Large 3 Light Semi Flush Pendant in this range, which sits fixed against the ceiling, this inverted pendant needs a room with height to spare so the shades can hang clear and face upward as intended. It works well over a dining table or in a double height stairwell, anywhere the light can be appreciated from below as well as from the side.

This inverted format is a good example of how Interiors 1900 has kept experimenting with a design first established in 1983. The dragonfly motif and the handmade glass are the same tradition the brand built its name on, cut and coloured while molten so that each shade carries small variations that are part of the handmade process rather than a flaw in it. Turning the shades upward is simply a newer twist on a design that otherwise stays true to the original Tiffany style approach.
