Turned Up, On Purpose

Instead of hanging its glass shade like a dome, the Dragonfly Beige Large Inverted 3 Light Pendant turns the bowl upward, so the light and the leaded pattern are thrown up and outward rather than straight down. It is a small change of geometry that gives a very different effect from the standard Large pendant in the same family.

Why Beige

Beige takes the Dragonfly motif into ivory, honey and soft amber glass, a warmer and quieter read than the blues and greens found in other colourways of the design. Because an inverted shade catches more attention at eye level than a downward facing one, the gentler Beige palette keeps the fitting decorative without it dominating the room.

How It Works

Three suspension chains hold the 500mm diameter shade at a fixed height of around 680mm, so it needs a reasonably generous ceiling rather than an adjustable drop. It takes 3 x 60W E27 (ES) lamps, not included, and is dimmable with a suitable dimmable LED lamp and compatible dimmer. The complete fitting weighs approximately 4.5kg.

Where It Works Best

The upward throw of light suits open stairwells, double height hallways, and dining rooms with high ceilings, where the standard Large pendant's downward pool of light would leave the upper walls dark. Where ceiling height is more modest, the standard Large 3 Light Pendant is the easier fit.

Made By Interiors 1900

The Dragonfly range carries forward a technique Interiors 1900 has used since 1983: mixing coloured glass while it is still molten, then hand cutting and leading each piece into place. Interiors 1900 describes the result as glass with genuine individuality, since no two mixes come out identical. What began as a small British Tiffany lamp maker has grown over more than four decades into a broader lighting brand, but the inverted pendant shapes in this range still show off that original hand assembled glasswork better than almost anything else it makes.
