A single E14 candle lamp, rated up to 40W, sits within the downlighter shade, and the fitting is double insulated with a foot pedal switch built into its base. This keeps operation simple without needing an accessible wall switch.

Its focused, downward light makes it best suited to a reading chair, home office corner or bedside position where directional light matters more than filling the whole room, unlike the wider spread of the standard Dark Star floor lamp. Its slim profile, around 26cm wide, also suits tighter corners than the wider UpLighter base allows.
