The Ashton range takes the Art Nouveau fascination with dragonflies and lily ponds and recasts it in hand pieced glass, so light passes through wings and petals instead of paint. This semi flush pendant keeps that motif close to the ceiling, dropping just over 30cm so the coloured glass reads as a lit canopy overhead rather than a shade hanging into the middle of the room.

Choosing Your Ashton Fitting

Ashton comes in a single glasswork colourway, so the real choice is how the fitting sits in the room. This semi flush pendant drops around 31cm from the ceiling, giving more presence than the true flush 2 Light version, which sits almost flat at 15cm, while still clearing ceilings too low for a suspended pendant. Where the ceiling allows more drama, the Large Inverted 3 Light Pendant lowers further on an adjustable chain and turns the same glass into an uplit bowl instead.

How It Works

Three E27 lamp holders carry the coloured glass canopy, each rated for lamps up to 60W and equally happy with a dimmable LED lamp and a compatible dimmer switch, so you are not tied to incandescent bulbs to get the effect. The fitting is Class 1, earthed, and finished in satin black metalwork that frames the glass rather than competing with it. At around 45cm across, it throws enough coloured light to matter without overwhelming a standard ceiling rose.

Where It Works Best

This is the fitting for a hallway, landing or dining room where the ceiling is too low, or the sightline too central, for a full drop pendant, but where the flush 2 Light fitting alone would feel underscaled. It sits between its two Ashton siblings in both size and presence, bigger than the flush fitting, flatter than the inverted pendant, and suits a room you look up into from a seated position, such as a dining table, more than one you walk directly beneath.

Interiors 1900 built its name from 1983 onward on handmade Tiffany style lamps, and the dragonfly and lily pairing on Ashton draws directly on that early Art Nouveau influence. Every panel of glass in this shade is cut and leaded individually, so colour and texture shift slightly from one fitting to the next, genuine handmade character rather than something to read as inconsistency. Four decades on, the brand has grown into solid brass and crystal lighting too, but Tiffany glass, in ranges like this one, remains where it began.
