A square edged eyelid step light in powder coated aluminium, wired straight to the mains
This is the GU10 mains version of Hunza's square hood eyelid step light. A solid metal eyelid hides the GU10 lamp from view and directs its light down onto the step or path below, running straight off the mains with no transformer to install. The square backplate gives it a crisper, more architectural line than the round flange used on the standard Solid Eyelid.
Powder coated aluminium, in a colour to match the setting
The flange and eyelid are cast aluminium with a weatherproof powder coat finish, shown here in black. Hunza also offers this fitting in white, dark grey, silver, olive green, brown and bronze powder coat, so it can be matched to render, brick or timber rather than reading as an obvious metal fitting. Treat the colour swatch as a guide only. Moonlight Design can supply a physical sample on request before you commit to a colour.
How It Works
- The square flange is 88mm wide and 7mm deep, over a recessed body 63.5mm in diameter and 90mm long, needing a 63.5mm cut out. The body is a little longer than the low voltage version to house the GU10 lamp holder.
- The eyelid projects 25mm and masks around two thirds of the lamp face, sending light down and forward across the step.
- The direction is fixed rather than adjustable, as on all Hunza eyelid step lights, so plan the orientation before setting the mounting canister.
- This mains version wires straight in, with no transformer or driver, and takes a Hunza approved 4W GU10 LED lamp, sold separately.
- The same fitting is also available as a low voltage MR16 version, and as a Pure LED version with an integrated LED chip. The round flange Solid Eyelid is also available in powder coat, if that profile suits your project better.
Where It Works Best
- Steps and stair risers where a mains feed is more practical than running a transformer circuit.
- Retaining walls and low garden walls, especially where you want the fitting to blend into painted or rendered surfaces rather than stand out.
- Any change of level needing safety lighting, from a single threshold step to a full staircase.
- Projects where the square profile suits square set brick or block paving better than a round fitting.
Our own installations
The in situ photographs on this page are genuinely Moonlight Design's own designs and installations, not stock photography. They show the round profile Hunza eyelid step light rather than this square hood GU10 version, since we haven't yet photographed a square hood installation of our own. The light output and fixing method are the same across both profiles, so they're still a fair guide to how an eyelid step light looks once it's recessed and lit at night.
