A Powder Coated Eyelid Step Light Wired Straight to the Mains
This is the GU10 mains version of Hunza's Step Light Solid Eyelid in a powder coated finish, a recessed fitting with a solid metal eyelid hood cast over the lamp face. The hood curves down and forward so light spills across the step or path below it rather than shining back up at anyone walking past. Being a mains GU10 fitting, it runs straight off your household supply with no transformer to plan for.
Powder Coated Aluminium Eyelid
The flange and eyelid hood on this fitting are cast in aluminium and finished with a durable powder coat, our studio photograph shows it in black. Hunza also offers this powder coat finish in white, grey, silver, green, brown and bronze, so it can be matched to brickwork, render or timber rather than always standing out. Because the powder coat colour can vary slightly between screens and batches, Hunza treats printed and on screen colours as a guide only and can provide a physical swatch on request.
How It Works
The eyelid hood covers around two thirds of the lamp face in a fixed position, so it cannot be aimed or adjusted after fitting. The shape does the work instead, directing light down and forward across a step tread or path while keeping the lamp itself out of direct view. The recessed body measures 63.5mm in diameter and 90mm in length, longer than the low voltage version to house the GU10 lamp holder, with a 63.5mm cut out. The visible flange is 88mm across and 7mm deep, and the eyelid adds a further 25mm of depth.
Being mains voltage and wired in parallel, this eyelid step light needs no transformer, just a Hunza approved GU10 LED lamp, sold separately. If your installation runs on a low voltage circuit instead, the same eyelid is also available as the standard low voltage version, which takes an MR16 lamp and a buriable transformer.
Where It Works Best
- Recessed into brick or masonry steps to light each tread
- Fitted into retaining walls or low garden walls beside a path
- Projects already wired for mains rather than a low voltage transformer circuit
- Projects where the fitting needs to match an existing colour scheme rather than stand out in bare metal
Our Own Installations
The in situ photographs on this page, showing the eyelid recessed into brick step risers, timber railway sleeper steps and curved garden walls, are Moonlight Design's own designs and installations. They are not stock imagery. They give a real sense of how this eyelid step light sits and lights a step or wall once fitted, rather than a studio shot on its own.

Questions People Ask
Does this GU10 version need a transformer?
No. This is the mains version, so it wires straight into your mains supply and only needs a Hunza approved GU10 LED lamp, sold separately.
What is the eyelid hood made from?
It is cast aluminium finished with a powder coat, shown here in black, rather than a solid copper or stainless steel casting.
What colours is the powder coat available in?
Hunza offers this fitting in black, white, grey, silver, green, brown and bronze powder coat finishes.
Why is the warranty shorter than the copper or stainless steel version?
Hunza backs the powder coated aluminium finish with a 5 year warranty, against 10 years on the solid copper and stainless steel versions, reflecting the different finish.
