A Wide Horizontal Wash, Squared Off
The Step Light Louvre Square is a recessed outdoor light with a louvred lens across its face rather than an open lamp. Five horizontal slats break up the light and throw it sideways in a wide, even band rather than a single beam, which makes it well suited to lighting a step tread or a run of stairs safely. The flange is square rather than round, giving it a cleaner, more architectural edge than Hunza's round Step Light Louvre.
Marine Grade 316 Stainless Steel
This version is made from solid 316 stainless steel, the marine grade metal Hunza use for their most weather resistant fittings. Unlike copper, it does not patina. Expect a consistent satin metal finish that holds its look over years outdoors, though Hunza note that stainless steel can pick up surface tarnish in some environments and recommend an occasional wash to keep it looking its best. A small H mark is pressed discreetly into the face.

- The louvre slats are fixed and non adjustable, always spreading light sideways rather than in a single beam.
- Recessed body 63.5mm in diameter and 68.5mm long, set behind an 88mm square flange just 7mm deep.
- Cut out size is 63.5mm.
- Low voltage, wired in parallel and supplied with 1m of cable. Needs a Hunza transformer and a Hunza approved MR16 LED lamp, both sold separately.
- Rated IP66 with Hunza's 10 year warranty.
- Also made as a GU10 mains version in the same stainless steel finish, and as a Pure LED version with an integrated LED chip if you would rather not deal with a separate lamp.

They are honest about one thing: they show the general wash effect Hunza's louvred step lights give off rather than a close up of this specific square, stainless steel fitting, since we do not yet have installation shots of the square profile on site. The light pattern itself, a wide even band across each tread, is exactly what this fitting produces.

Why choose the square version over the round Step Light Louvre?
Both give the same wide horizontal wash of light. The square version has an 88mm square flange, which suits a more architectural or contemporary setting, while the round version has a softer, more traditional look.
Does stainless steel need any maintenance?
Occasional washing is enough. Hunza note that 316 stainless steel can pick up a surface tarnish in some environments, and washing helps prevent this.
Is the beam direction adjustable?
No. The louvre slats are fixed in place and always spread light sideways across the step, so there is nothing to aim once it is installed.
