A mains driveway light with a finish that shrugs off the weather
The Hunza Driveway Light GU10 in stainless steel is the mains powered version of Hunza's flush mounted driveway uplighter, wired straight off a standard armoured cable supply and built to be driven over daily without complaint. No transformer to size, no low voltage circuit to plan, just a simple GU10 lamp doing the work.
The stainless steel finish
The visible flange is machined from a 150mm rod of 316 marine grade stainless steel, fixed with three stainless steel anti vandal screws, and keeps a clean, consistent look with very little upkeep. Hunza note that solid stainless steel can pick up a light surface tarnish in some environments, which regular washing resolves. Underneath, the body of the fitting is cast from a high corrosion resistant aluminium alloy in a UV stable black powder coat, standard construction across the whole Driveway Lite range. The steel you see on the surface and the aluminium body below ground are doing two different jobs, one for looks and durability at the surface, one for a light, tough housing that copes with being driven over.
How It Works
The canister measures 114mm in diameter and 150mm in length, with a 148mm diameter flange sitting 20mm proud of the canister top, and a 110mm cut out is needed in the surface you are recessing it into. This mains voltage fitting is supplied via a buried armoured cable, wired in parallel, so there is no transformer involved. You will need a Hunza approved GU10 LED lamp, sold separately and easy to replace given how widely available the GU10 format is in the UK. Only Hunza approved lamps should be fitted, to keep the fitting within its IP66 rating and protect the warranty. The lamp holder rotates a full 360 degrees and tilts up to 20 degrees, so you can angle the beam at a tree or wall without lifting the fitting out of its mounting canister. The same fitting is also available with a replaceable MR16 lamp on a low voltage circuit, and as a Pure LED version with a sealed, integrated LED module.
Where It Works Best
This is a driveway and entrance light, plain and simple. Recessed along the edge of a drive or across a courtyard, it throws a controlled beam upward onto a tree, a stone pillar, a garden wall or a house facade. Its 1500kg, 10km/h drive over rating makes it just as useful in gravel turning circles and parking areas, and the stainless finish tends to suit more contemporary schemes.
Our experience with Hunza
We have specified Hunza fittings in our garden lighting schemes since 2003, and the driveway light is one we return to on almost every project where vehicles need to cross the lit area. The photographs on this page, the lit gate, the avenue of uplit trees and the magnolia archway, are our own, from real projects we designed and installed, not stock photography. That first hand experience of how these fittings perform once set into gravel or stone is what informs what we recommend.

Questions People Ask
Is the whole fitting stainless steel?
No. The visible flange is 316 marine grade stainless steel, fixed to a body cast from black powder coated aluminium alloy. This is standard construction across the Driveway Lite range and does not affect the IP66 rating.
Do I still need a transformer?
No. This is the mains version, wired directly via a buried armoured cable, so there is no transformer to buy.
What lamp does it take?
A Hunza approved GU10 LED lamp, sold separately. GU10 is one of the most widely stocked lamp formats in the UK.
Will it cope with regular car traffic?
Yes, it is rated for vehicles up to 1500kg at speeds up to 10km/h, suitable for a domestic driveway used daily.
Is there a low voltage or Pure LED version?
Yes, this fitting is also available with a replaceable MR16 lamp on low voltage, and as a Pure LED version with an integrated, non replaceable LED module.
