A mains driveway light for anyone who wants to skip a transformer
The Hunza Driveway Light GU10 in solid bronze is the mains powered version of Hunza's driveway uplighter, built to sit flush with a driveway or entrance court and take a common GU10 lamp straight off a standard armoured cable supply. No transformer, no low voltage circuit to plan, just a well built recessed fitting that can be driven over without concern.
The solid bronze finish
The visible flange is machined from a 150mm bar of solid bronze and held in place with three stainless steel anti vandal screws. Left outdoors, that bronze will darken gradually and take on a warm patina, which is exactly why most people choose it. Underneath, the body of the fitting is cast from a high corrosion resistant aluminium alloy finished in a UV stable black powder coat. This is Hunza's standard construction for the whole Driveway Lite range, not a downgrade on the bronze you can see. It is worth noting this clearly because the fitting is sometimes listed simply as bronze without explaining that the buried body is aluminium, when in fact that is exactly how Hunza design and build it.
How It Works
The canister measures 114mm in diameter and 150mm in length, with a 148mm diameter flange sitting 20mm proud of the canister top, and it needs a 110mm cut out in the surface you are recessing it into. This is a mains voltage fitting supplied via a buried armoured cable, wired in parallel, so there is no transformer to size or buy. You will need a Hunza approved GU10 LED lamp, sold separately, one of the most widely available lamp formats in the UK so replacements are never hard to find. Only Hunza approved lamps should be used, to keep the fitting within its IP66 rating and protect the warranty. The lamp holder rotates 360 degrees and tilts up to 20 degrees, letting you angle the beam at a nearby tree or wall without removing the fitting from its mounting canister. If you would prefer a low voltage system instead, the same design is available with an MR16 lamp, and there is also a Pure LED version with a sealed, integrated LED module.
Where It Works Best
This is a driveway and entrance light through and through. Set along the edge of a drive or across a courtyard, it throws a controlled beam upward onto a tree, a stone pillar, a garden wall or the front of the house. Because it sits flush and is rated for vehicles up to 1500kg at up to 10km/h, it also suits gravel turning circles and parking areas where running new low voltage cable is not practical.
Our experience with Hunza
We have specified Hunza fittings in our garden lighting schemes since 2003, and the driveway light is one we come back to on almost every project with vehicle access to light. The photographs on this page, the lit gate, the avenue of uplit trees and the magnolia archway, are our own, taken on real schemes we designed and installed, not stock imagery. That hands on experience with how these fittings behave once buried in gravel or set into stone is what shapes what we recommend.

Questions People Ask
Is this fitting solid bronze all the way through?
No. The visible flange is solid bronze bar, fixed to a body cast from black powder coated aluminium alloy. This is standard Hunza construction and has no bearing on the fitting's IP66 rating.
Do I need a transformer for this version?
No. This is the mains version, wired directly via a buried armoured cable, so there is no transformer to buy or size.
What lamp does it use?
A Hunza approved GU10 LED lamp, sold separately. It is a widely stocked lamp format, so replacements are easy to source in future.
Can vehicles drive over it?
Yes, it is rated for vehicles up to 1500kg at speeds up to 10km/h.
Is there a low voltage version?
Yes, the same fitting is available with a replaceable MR16 lamp on a low voltage circuit, and as a Pure LED version with an integrated, non replaceable LED module.
