A Border Light Built for Effortless Path and Planting Illumination
The Hunza Border Light is a low level outdoor fixture designed to sit right where your planting meets your path, throwing a wide, even spread of light across the ground with no glare and no upward spill. It is built to disappear into the border by day and do quiet, precise work after dark.
Powder Coated Aluminium Finish
This version is made from powder coated aluminium, a tough, weatherproof finish that resists fading and corrosion through repeated wet British winters. It is available in seven colours, matt black, matt bronze, matt white, matt dark grey, matt olive green, matt white birch and matt silver star, so it can be matched to a fence, a planter or left to sit quietly against foliage. Every fitting is supplied with a frosted glass lens, which softens the beam and cuts glare when you catch it side on.
How It Works
- The head sits on a fully adjustable arm that rotates a full 360 degrees and tilts from 0 to 90 degrees, so the beam can be aimed precisely at a shrub, a path edge or a step.
- It runs on a low voltage system, wired in parallel, and needs a Hunza buriable transformer to operate.
- The fitting takes a G4 capsule LED, which is not included and must be purchased separately.
- Supplied with a 1m cable, ready to connect into your low voltage lighting circuit.
- Rated IP66, so it stays fully weatherproof once installed and wired correctly.
Where It Works Best
Because the light spreads sideways rather than up, the Border Light is built for edging: lining a gravel path, washing light across a low hedge, picking out lavender or ornamental grasses along a border, or marking the edge of a step or a raised bed. It works equally well dotted singly through a flower bed or run in a repeated line along a driveway or garden avenue.
The photographs on this page are taken from Moonlight Design's own garden lighting projects, not studio setups, so what you are seeing is exactly how the Border Light reads once it is planted among grasses, lavender and stone paving after dark.
Designed and Made in New Zealand
Hunza has been designing and hand assembling outdoor lighting in Auckland, New Zealand for over 30 years, according to the brand. Its fixtures are built from solid, weather grade materials rather than cheaper alternatives, which is why a fitting this size carries a 5 year manufacturer warranty as standard.

Questions People Ask
What is a border light used for?
A border light is a low level outdoor fixture designed to sit along garden borders and path edges. It spreads a wide, even pool of light sideways across planting and paving rather than shining upward, which makes it useful for edging paths, beds and steps without glare.
Does the Hunza Border Light come with a bulb?
No, the fitting is supplied without a bulb. It takes a G4 capsule LED, which needs to be bought separately and must be a Hunza approved LED to preserve the IP66 rating and the warranty.
Can the angle of the light be adjusted?
Yes, the arm rotates a full 360 degrees and tilts from 0 to 90 degrees, so the beam can be aimed precisely at planting, a path edge or a step after installation.
Should I choose the 400mm or 850mm length?
The 850mm pole lifts the fitting above taller planting for a wider spread of light, while the 400mm option sits lower and suits edging low borders. The 400mm length is made to order.
Is the Hunza Border Light suitable for permanent outdoor installation?
Yes, it carries an IP66 rating and is built from powder coated aluminium, so it is rated for permanent outdoor use in all weather and is backed by a 5 year manufacturer warranty.
