Firefly is named for the soft, hovering glow that seems to sit just under its shade, as though a single glowing beetle had been caught mid flight. This bronze base pairs with a frosted shade for a gentle, diffused light that suits a dinner table, a bedside or a covered terrace equally well.

Choosing Bronze and Frosted

Bronze gives the base a warm, slightly aged metal tone that sits well against wood or stone tabletops, and the frosted shade spreads its light evenly rather than letting the bulb show through as a hard point. For a moodier, more contained glow in the same bronze base, the smoked shade is the alternative.

How It Works

Firefly charges wirelessly on a Qi charging dock or via the included USB-C cable, taking 4 to 6 hours for up to 140 hours of light on the lowest of its three dimmable settings. Its aluminium and polycarbonate build with silicone seals carries an IP65 rating, and light is controlled either from the remote or a button on its underside. Measuring 8.6cm across and 11.8cm tall and weighing 0.57lbs, it is small enough to move between rooms or take outside without a second thought, and its 2200K colour temperature keeps the glow warm rather than clinical.

Because it is IP65 rated, Firefly is as happy on a covered patio table or beside an outdoor sofa as it is on a nightstand or dinner table indoors. Its low, warm glow suits evening dining and quiet corners more than task lighting, and its cordless build means it can move outside for a summer evening and back in without ever needing a socket.

Humble was founded in Amsterdam in 2018 by Jorren Teertstra and fellow Dutch industrial design engineers Gert, Tom, Lenny and Douwe, built on the idea of a wireless alternative to candlelight. Firefly carries that idea through to a lamp designed to move as freely as a flame, without the risk one carries.

Questions People Ask

Can it stay outside overnight? IP65 covers rain and damp conditions, but like any battery lamp it is worth bringing in if heavy weather is expected, more for the electronics' longevity than any rating shortfall.

How long does 140 hours actually mean in practice? That figure is for the lowest of the three settings, expect fewer hours on the brighter settings, useful to know when planning around a single charge for an event.

Does the shade come off for cleaning? The frosted shade lifts away from the base, making it straightforward to wipe down after outdoor use.
