A striking mid-century pendant with a huge drop range
Zelda's design is built around a column of metal spheres that grow larger as they descend from the ceiling loop, and in Polished Nickel this three light pendant shows the effect at its brightest and most reflective. It is also a genuinely large fixture, with a diameter of 51.4cm and a drop that adjusts from 55cm up to 355cm. Please check these measurements against your space before ordering.
Polished Nickel finish
The Polished Nickel finish gives the sphere column and the sleek, bowed rectangular arms a bright, mirror like quality. Tapered etched glass shades sit on a hemisphere cup at the end of each arm, adding a vintage touch that softens the metal's shine. It pairs well with warm wood, marble and other polished metal fittings nearby.
How it works
This is a three light pendant that hangs centrally from the ceiling on an adjustable suspension, giving you that full drop range from 55cm to 355cm to work with depending on your ceiling height. It takes 3 x E27 LED bulbs, which are not included, so you will need to add your own. It is dimmable if you fit dimmable bulbs and use a compatible dimmer switch. This fitting is Class I, which means it requires an earthed connection. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.
Where it works best
Its scale and adjustable drop make it a strong fit for spaces with real height to play with, such as over a dining table, above a kitchen island, in a stairwell or a double height hallway. Because the drop goes right down to 355cm, it also works well on a galleried landing or a tall entrance hall where a standard pendant would look lost.
The story behind Hinkley
Hinkley began in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley started out making outdoor lanterns in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just fourteen products. Zelda's confident, sculptural column of spheres sits a world away from that first small lantern range, and reflects how far the company grew after Stanley Wiedemer bought into the business in the 1930s and took full ownership on Phil's death in 1937. His family has run Hinkley ever since, through three further generations of Wiedemers, and Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted the brand's designs for UK homes since 2012, converting fittings like this one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
