A single light take on a classic lantern shape
The Willoughby single wall lantern brings traditional lantern styling to a compact, one light fitting. It has the curved frame, decorative knobs and oversized clear seeded glass that make the Willoughby range recognisable, built here around a single lamp rather than two. It works well anywhere you want a warm pool of light without a large fixture on the wall.
Oil rubbed bronze and seeded glass
This version is finished in oil rubbed bronze, a deep, weathered bronze tone applied to a weather resistant composite frame. The glass is clear and seeded, giving the light a slightly textured, old fashioned look as it shines through. The finish is backed by a 5 year warranty against rust and corrosion, useful reassurance for a fitting that lives outdoors.
How it works
The Willoughby single wall lantern takes one E27 LED bulb, which is not included, so you will need to add one to your order. It is dimmable if you fit dimmable bulbs. This is a wall mounted fitting, and we always recommend a qualified electrician installs it. It is a Class I fitting, which means it must be properly earthed.
Where it works best
Being IP44 rated, this lantern is built to cope with rain and splashing, so it suits an exposed front door, porch, side passage or any covered outdoor spot where you want reliable weatherproof lighting. Its single light output gives a softer, more focused glow than a two light fitting, which suits smaller porches or narrower walls well.
The story behind Hinkley
Hinkley began in 1922 as a small outdoor lantern maker in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just 14 products, a lineage this Willoughby lantern still carries. After founder Phil Hinkley died in 1937, Stanley Wiedemer took full ownership and moved his family from Kansas City to Cleveland to run the company. Stanley's grandson Rick Wiedemer joined the business in 1969, going on to a career spanning 50 years. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK and Europe, converting fittings such as this Willoughby lantern for 220 to 240V wiring and full CE certification.
