A lantern built for a busier doorway
The Hinkley Wabash 2 Light Medium Wall Lantern takes its shape from lanterns of a much older era, when a hinged door was there for a practical reason, to make swapping out a candle, gas mantle or oil wick easier. That hinged front stays on this design purely as a nod to that history, and today it just makes changing a bulb straightforward. With two lamp holders instead of one, this medium lantern throws a fuller spread of light than its single light sibling, making it a good fit for a wider porch, a larger entrance or a spot either side of a garage door.
A warm Mocha finish in cast aluminium
Mocha sits between a traditional bronze and a deeper walnut brown, giving the cast aluminium frame a soft, weathered look rather than a glossy or formal one. Aluminium resists rust and corrosion naturally, so this finish is built to hold up well through repeated exposure to rain and changing weather outdoors.
How it works
Two E14 lamp holders sit behind the hinged glass door, and the hinge makes any future bulb change quick and simple. Bulbs aren't included, so you'll need two E14 bulbs to complete the fitting. It's dimmable if dimmable bulbs are used. This is a Class I fitting, earthed as part of a standard mains connection. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.
Where it works best
Wabash is rated IP44, so it's built to cope with rain and splashing water. That makes it a genuine option for an exposed porch, a front door, a driveway or a garden wall, anywhere weather reaches the fitting directly. Because it holds two lights rather than one, this medium size suits larger entrances or spots where a wider pool of light is wanted, such as flanking a garage door or either side of a wider doorway.
The story behind Hinkley
Hinkley started life in Cleveland, Ohio in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley set up a small outdoor lantern maker with a debut catalogue of just 14 products. A lantern like Wabash sits close to those roots, since outdoor lighting was the business Hinkley was actually built on. Ownership passed to the Wiedemer family after Phil Hinkley's death in 1937, and the company has stayed a family business ever since, with a fourth generation of Wiedemers now involved in running it. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK and Europe, converting fittings like this one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
