The Antique Nickel finish is hand applied, so expect gentle variation in tone from piece to piece, and bear in mind that screens rarely show metal finishes exactly as they appear in person.

Cast mild steel forms the frame and the five sloped arms, finished in Antique Nickel for a soft, aged sheen that sits comfortably with traditional and transitional furniture alike. Etched opal glass shades soften the light at each arm, and the collection's signature cast finials finish the design at the crown and base. The Truman range is also available in other finishes, including Chrome and further Nickel options, so it is easy to match existing fittings in the room.

How it works

This is a hardwired ceiling fitting, wired to Class I, which means it needs to be properly earthed. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting. It takes 5 x E14 LED bulbs, which are not supplied, so you will need to add five to your order. It is dimmable if you fit dimmable bulbs, though the fitting itself does not include a dimmer switch.

Where it works best

At over two metres of maximum drop, this chandelier is built for rooms with real ceiling height, such as dining rooms, tall hallways and living spaces where it can hang as a genuine centrepiece. Because the drop adjusts down to 73.3cm, it can also work in more modest rooms such as bedrooms, provided the 68.6cm diameter has room to breathe above a table or seating area.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley started in 1922 as a small outdoor lantern maker in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just fourteen products. When founder Phil Hinkley became ill in the mid 1930s, travelling salesman Stanley Wiedemer bought into the business, then took it on fully after Phil's death in 1937, moving his own family to Cleveland to run it. Three more generations of Wiedemers have led the company since, from Stanley's grandson Rick joining in 1969 through to the fourth generation, Kristi, Jess and Eric, stepping into leadership roles around 2000. The Truman chandelier's traditional cast detailing and etched glass reflect that long, steady family stewardship rather than any passing trend, and since 2012 Elstead Lighting has adapted designs like this one for UK homes, converting them to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
