A traditional chandelier with real presence
The Truman 3 Light Chandelier is one of the larger fittings in Hinkley's Truman collection, built around three boldly sloped arms and cast detailing that give it genuine chandelier scale. It is a large fitting: a diameter of 50.8cm and a drop that adjusts from 62.6cm up to 215.1cm. Please check these measurements against your space before ordering. The Antique Nickel finish is hand applied, so expect some natural variation piece to piece, and remember that screens can render colour differently to how it looks in person.
Antique Nickel finish
This chandelier is finished in Antique Nickel over cast mild steel, paired with etched opal glass shades that soften the light from each arm. The aged, slightly weathered tone works well alongside darker woods, aged brass accents and other traditional metal finishes elsewhere in the room. The same design is also available in a Chrome finish.
How it works
Three E14 bulbs sit within the etched opal glass shades. Bulbs aren't supplied, so you'll need to add your own when you order. The fitting is dimmable if you fit dimmable bulbs, though it won't dim with standard bulbs fitted. It's wired as Class I, which means it requires an earth connection. This chandelier is hardwired to the ceiling. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.
Where it works best
Its scale and adjustable drop suit rooms with a bit of height: over a dining table, in a hallway or stairwell, or in a living room where you want a genuine focal point. If your ceiling is on the lower side, the drop can be trimmed back, which also makes it a workable choice for a larger bedroom.
The story behind Hinkley
Hinkley began in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley started out making outdoor lanterns in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just fourteen products. When Stanley Wiedemer, a travelling salesman from Kansas City, bought into the business in the mid 1930s and then took full ownership in 1937, he moved his family to Cleveland to keep it going, and Hinkley has stayed in Wiedemer hands ever since. Stanley's grandson Rick joined the business in 1969, for a career that spanned fifty years, and by around 2000 the fourth generation, Kristi, Jess and Eric Wiedemer, had begun taking on leadership roles of their own. A traditional design like this Truman chandelier sits comfortably within that long, steady family history. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK and Europe, converting fittings like this one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
