A tall lantern for a prominent exterior wall
The Hinkley Taper LED Wall Lantern is a tall, pared back outdoor light built for a bigger stretch of wall. At 610mm high, it has real presence, with a slim tapered profile that runs light down the wall below rather than throwing it outward. In Textured Black, it reads as a modern, architectural alternative to a traditional lantern shape.
Textured black composite and glass
This lantern is made from weather resistant composite with a glass diffuser, finished in Textured Black. The composite body is built to handle ongoing exposure to the elements without the upkeep a traditional cast metal lantern would need, while the black finish and clean lines suit contemporary brick, render, or timber cladding.
How it works
The LED is integrated into the fitting itself, so there is no separate bulb to buy or replace. It runs at 10.5W and puts out 860 lumens of warm white light at 3000K, with a CRI above 80 for accurate colour rendering. This lantern is not dimmable. It is a Class I fitting, which means it needs to be properly earthed as part of installation. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.
Where it works best
Rated IP44, this lantern is weatherproof enough for a fully exposed exterior wall, not just a sheltered porch. Its taller 610mm scale suits a more prominent position: either side of a front door, spaced along a longer boundary wall, or anywhere you want a clean architectural wash of light rather than a small pool of it.
The story behind Hinkley
Hinkley began in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley started a small outdoor lantern company in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just 14 products. Stanley Wiedemer, a travelling salesman, bought into the business in the mid 1930s and took it over outright after Phil's death in 1937, and his family has run it ever since, through Stanley's grandson Rick from 1969 and the fourth generation Wiedemers from around 2000. A tall, integrated LED lantern like this one is a long way from those first 14 outdoor pieces, but it is still built on the same brief: outdoor lighting that lasts. Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK and Europe since 2012, converting fittings like this one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
