A grand nine light centrepiece for rooms with height to spare
The Sussex 9 Light Chandelier is the largest design in the Hinkley Sussex collection, and it is a genuinely large fixture. It has a drop that adjusts from 99cm up to 400cm, an 81.3cm diameter and a weight of 12.7kg. Nine individual lights are arranged around a central column, giving the whole piece real presence in a room with the ceiling height to match.
Brushed nickel with a soft linen shade
The frame is steel, finished in brushed nickel, and each light sits inside a white linen hard back shade over a clear glass candle sleeve. The mix of a soft fabric shade against the cool metal finish and clear glass gives the chandelier a layered look rather than a sharp, purely metallic one. The same design is also available in a chrome finish.
How it works
This chandelier is hardwired and hangs from a ceiling rose, with the adjustable drop giving you some flexibility over how low it hangs. It takes nine E14 bulbs, and these aren't supplied, so you'll need to add your own. It only dims if you fit dimmable bulbs, since the fitting itself has no separate dimming mechanism. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting. It's rated Class I, which means it needs to be earthed.

Its scale makes it best suited to large dining rooms, entrance halls, living rooms and bedrooms with high ceilings, the sort of space where nine lights and a generous drop can be fully appreciated rather than feeling cramped. The story behind Hinkley
Hinkley started out in 1922 as a small outdoor lantern maker in Cleveland, Ohio, founded by Phil R. Hinkley with a debut catalogue of just fourteen products. A chandelier on the scale of the Sussex is a long way from those early lanterns, and that distance reflects how far the company grew over the following century, through Stanley Wiedemer's ownership from the 1930s, three further generations of the Wiedemer family, and an expansion into ceiling fans alongside a simplified "Hinkley" name around 2019 and 2020. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs, including this one, for the UK and Europe, converting fittings like the Sussex to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
