Hand hammered bronze finish

Each steel arm is hand hammered, which is what gives Metallic Matte Bronze its slightly uneven, textured surface rather than a flat factory sheen. Because the finish is applied and textured by hand, you may notice small variations in tone or texture from one pendant to the next, and the colour on screen will not always match the finish in person. It sits well against warm woods, dark cabinetry and brushed metal furniture.

This pendant takes 6 x E14 bulbs, sold separately, and can be dimmed if you fit dimmable bulbs. It is Class I, which means it must be properly earthed as part of a correct installation. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley began in 1922 as a small Cleveland outdoor lantern maker, Phil R. Hinkley's debut catalogue ran to just 14 products. When Phil became ill in the mid 1930s he sold half the business to Stanley Wiedemer, a travelling salesman who bought the rest on Phil's death in 1937 and moved his family to Cleveland to run it. The Wiedemers have stayed at the helm ever since, through Stanley's grandson Rick from 1969 and into a fourth generation around the turn of the millennium. A fixture on the scale of this Spyre pendant, hand hammered arm by arm, still carries something of that small workshop's hands on approach. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK, converting fittings like this one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
