The Spyre 6 Light Pendant takes the collection's sculptural, hand forged look and scales it right up. Six twisting steel arms radiate outward from a central point, each one catching the light differently as you move around the room. Champagne Gold finish

Each of the six arms is finished in Champagne Gold over a steel frame. The finish is hand hammered, so the texture varies slightly from one arm to the next and from one pendant to another. Because this finish is hand applied, expect some natural variation in colour and texture between pieces, and be aware that screens show metallic tones differently to how they look in person. It reads as a warm, weathered gold that suits dark walls, natural wood and other warm metals nearby.

How it works

Spyre is a hardwired pendant that hangs from the ceiling. It takes six E14 bulbs, which aren't included, so you'll need to choose and fit your own, and it works with dimmable bulbs if that's what you fit. The fitting is wired to Class I, which means it needs a proper earth connection. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Where it works best

With a drop that can reach almost four metres, Spyre is built for rooms with real height: a stairwell, a galleried landing, or a living room or dining room with generous ceiling height where its arms can spread out fully. The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley started in 1922 as a small outdoor lantern maker in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just fourteen products. When founder Phil Hinkley became ill in the 1930s, he sold half the business to a travelling salesman named Stanley Wiedemer, who bought the rest after Phil died in 1937 and moved his own family from Kansas City to Cleveland to run the company. The Wiedemers still lead Hinkley today: around 2000, the fourth generation, Kristi, Jess and Eric Wiedemer, began taking on leadership roles themselves. A fixture with the scale and presence of Spyre, hand hammered and built up to six lights, fits naturally within a family business built on hands on craft. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK and Europe, converting fittings like this one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
