A small lantern with a coastal, unfussy feel

The Sag Harbor 2 Light Medium Wall Lantern is a black outdoor wall light built for a front door, porch or covered entrance. Its two lamp positions sit behind clear glass and a soft grey diffuser, so the light reads as an even glow rather than two bright points. Named after the harbour town on Long Island, it has that plain, weathered New England look, useful rather than showy.

The body is aluminium, finished in black, with clear glass panels that keep the fitting looking open by day and lit by night. A grey diffuser sits just inside the glass, taking the edge off the two lamps without hiding them from view. It is a good match for black ironmongery, dark render or brick, and sits comfortably alongside other black exterior fittings.

How it works

This lantern takes two E14 bulbs, which are not supplied, so you will need to add your own. It is dimmable if you fit dimmable bulbs. The fitting is Class I, which means it needs to be earthed. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting. It is wall mounted and designed to light both outward, for street presence, and down, for the step or path below it.

With an IP44 rating, this wall lantern is built to handle the weather in a covered or partially exposed spot, an entrance porch, a covered doorway or a sheltered exterior wall. The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley started out in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley set up a small lantern business in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just fourteen products, nearly all of them outdoor lanterns for porches and entrances. A fitting like the Sag Harbor sits close to that original brief. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK and Europe, converting fittings such as this one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.

Is this lantern dimmable? Yes, but only if you fit dimmable E14 bulbs. With standard, non-dimmable bulbs it will not dim.

Do bulbs come with this lantern? No. It takes 2 x E14 bulbs, and these are not included, so you will need to order them separately.
