A bigger Quincy for a more prominent entrance
The Hinkley Quincy Single Medium Wall Lantern takes the bell shaped, early Americana styling of the smaller Quincy lantern and scales it up for a more prominent spot, such as either side of a wider front door. Die-cast aluminium construction and a faux candle inner cylinder give it the same warm, nostalgic character, just with more presence.
Oil rubbed bronze finish
This lantern is finished in Oil Rubbed Bronze over die-cast aluminium, with seeded glass and etched acrylic around the inner cylinder. The deep, warm bronze tone reads well against brick, stone or painted render, and suits a traditional or period style entrance.
How it works
Quincy takes 1 x E27 LED bulb, which isn't included, so you'll need to add one when you order. The seeded glass and etched acrylic sit around the lamp to soften the light into a warm, flickering looking glow rather than a single bright point. It's dimmable when used with dimmable LED bulbs. This is a Class I fitting, which means it needs to be properly earthed. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.
Where it works best
With an IP44 rating, Quincy is built to handle exposed exterior positions, including porches, canopies and open entrances that catch the weather. Its larger medium scale suits a prominent position, such as flanking a bigger door or lighting a wider porch, where the smaller Quincy lantern would look lost. It's designed as an outdoor wall lantern rather than an indoor fitting.
The story behind Hinkley
Hinkley began in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley set up in Cleveland, Ohio, as a small outdoor lantern maker, with a debut catalogue of just 14 products. That early focus on porch and entrance lighting still shows through in pieces like Quincy, with its bell shaped, early American silhouette. Ownership passed to the Wiedemer family after Stanley Wiedemer bought into the business in the 1930s and took on the rest in 1937, moving his own family to Cleveland to run it. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK and Europe, converting fittings like this one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
