The Plantation Single Pendant in Burnished Brass is the simplest version in the range: one arm, one optic glass shade, one light. It's built for spaces that need a single accent rather than a full chandelier, which makes it a popular choice as a brass kitchen island pendant, hung in twos or threes, or as a single drop beside a bed or over a stairwell.
Burnished Brass and optic glass
This pendant is made from solid brass and glass, finished in Burnished Brass with the same leaf like cast detailing found across the wider Plantation collection. The shade is a pineapple shaped optic glass, its faceted surface catching and scattering light rather than showing a plain bulb. The warm tone of a burnished brass ceiling pendant like this one pairs naturally with wood cabinetry, exposed brick, and other aged metal fittings.
How it works
A single E27 LED lamp sits behind the optic glass shade, throwing light down and outward into the room below. The bulb isn't included, so you'll need to add one when you order. The drop is adjustable from 41cm up to 102cm, so it can be set to sit low over a table or higher in a hallway. This fitting is Class I, which means it requires an earth connection. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.
Where it works best
As a single pendant, this light works well wherever you want one clean point of light rather than a spread. Try it over a kitchen island as part of a row, above a dining table, centred over a landing or stairwell, or singly beside a bed. Its modest scale means it also suits smaller kitchens and hallways where a multi arm fitting would feel too heavy.
The story behind Hinkley
Hinkley started in 1922 as a small outdoor lantern maker in Cleveland, Ohio, founded by Phil R. Hinkley with a debut catalogue of just fourteen products. A single pendant like this one, built around one arm and one shade, echoes that same small scale beginning. When illness forced Phil to step back in the mid 1930s, Stanley Wiedemer, a travelling salesman from Kansas City, bought half the company, then the rest after Phil's death in 1937, moving his own family to Cleveland to run it. His grandson Rick Wiedemer Jr joined the business in 1969 and led it for fifty years, a long stretch of continuity behind collections like Plantation. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has adapted Hinkley's designs, including this pendant, for UK homes, converting them to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
