Polished Antique Nickel, steel and optic glass

The frame is steel, finished in Polished Antique Nickel for a bright, softly aged metal tone rather than a flat, uniform shine. Each of the four arms carries a clear, pineapple shaped optic glass shade, the same cast detailing used throughout the wider Plantation range. The materials list also includes linen, used as a smaller design detail elsewhere on the fitting. The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley started small. Phil R. Hinkley founded the company in Cleveland, Ohio in 1922 with a debut catalogue of just 14 outdoor lantern designs, a long way from a four light indoor pendant with this much ornamentation. The business changed hands within one family more than once, from Stanley Wiedemer, who bought in during the 1930s and took full control after Phil's death in 1937, to Stanley's grandson Rick, who joined in 1969 and spent fifty years with the company. By around 2000, a fourth generation, Kristi, Jess and Eric Wiedemer, had begun taking on leadership roles themselves. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK, converting fittings like this one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
