A flush fitting with warmth built in
The Plantation 3 Light Large Flush is a close fitting ceiling light that sits almost flat against the ceiling, so it works well where headroom is tight. This Pearl Bronze version takes the same cast detailing as the rest of the Plantation flush range and finishes it in a warmer, softer metal tone than the nickel option, with ivory candle sleeves adding to the period feel.
Pearl Bronze finish and materials
The body is steel finished in Pearl Bronze, a warm, slightly antiqued tone that reads more traditional than a bright metal. Clear optic glass shades sit over painted ivory candle sleeves, and the ornate cast arms and centre column give the fitting its detailed, characterful silhouette. The bronze tone pairs naturally with warm wall colours, wood tones and other aged metal fittings in the same room.
How it works
Three lamps sit under clear optic glass shades, spreading light out and softening it rather than throwing a single downward beam. It takes 3 x E14 bulbs, which are not included, so you will need to order three separately. It is dimmable if you fit dimmable bulbs. The fitting mounts flush to the ceiling using a centre fixing point. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting. It is wired to Class I, which means it needs a proper earth connection.
Where it works best
The flush profile makes it a good fit for hallways, landings and bedrooms with lower ceilings, as well as living rooms, kitchens and dining rooms where a warmer, more traditional look is wanted. The Pearl Bronze finish and ivory sleeves sit comfortably against warm neutral or pale wall colours.
The story behind Hinkley
Hinkley began in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley started making outdoor lanterns in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just 14 pieces. When Phil became ill in the mid 1930s, Stanley Wiedemer, a travelling salesman from Kansas City, bought into the business, then took it over outright after Phil died in 1937 and moved his family to Cleveland to run it. The Wiedemer family has kept it going ever since, through Stanley's grandson Rick from 1969 and now a fourth generation, Kristi, Jess and Eric. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has brought Hinkley's designs, including pieces with the kind of cast detailing seen on this Plantation flush fitting, over to the UK and Europe, rewiring them for 220 to 240V and full CE certification.
