This chandelier is finished in Polished Antique Nickel, a warm, slightly aged metal tone that works equally well against pale walls or a darker ceiling. The frame is steel, carrying the ornate scrollwork and finial that run through the whole Plantation range, and the clear optic glass shades are moulded with the ridged, pineapple shaped profile the collection takes its name from.

How it works

Three lamp arms hold the optic glass shades in a ring below the central column, throwing light outward through the glass rather than straight down. This fitting takes three E27 bulbs, which are not included, so add three to your order before it goes up. The drop can be set anywhere between 89cm and 241.5cm to suit your ceiling height. It's wired to Class I, which means it needs an earthed supply. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Where it works best

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley began in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley started out making outdoor lanterns in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just 14 products. The business changed hands within the Wiedemer family after Phil's death in 1937, when Stanley Wiedemer bought the remaining half and moved his own family from Kansas City to Cleveland to run the company himself. A design as ornate as this chandelier, with its cast scrollwork and pineapple glass, is a long way from those first 14 lanterns, and it shows how far the range grew under three generations of the same family. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has brought pieces like this one over to the UK, rewiring them for 220 to 240V and securing full CE certification so they can be fitted here safely.
