The Plantation 2 Light Small Flush is the smaller of the two flush fittings in Hinkley's Plantation collection. It keeps the same ornate, pineapple cut optic glass shades used across the range, in a neater 30.5cm diameter, so it suits rooms where a larger flush fitting would feel too heavy.

Polished antique nickel finish

This fitting is finished in polished antique nickel, a bright metal tone with a softly aged character that sits well against both warm and cool wall colours. The steel frame carries candle sleeves finished to match, and the clear optic glass shades have the same cast detailing used across the wider Plantation range. The collection is also available in chrome, so you can match it to other fittings already in the room.

How it works

Two E27 bulbs sit under the optic glass shades, close to the ceiling, spreading light outward into the room rather than down onto one spot. Bulbs are not supplied, so you will need two E27 bulbs to complete the fitting. Choose dimmable bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch if you want to dim this light, since dimming depends on the bulbs used rather than the fitting itself. This is a Class I fitting, which means it needs an earthed connection. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley began in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley started making outdoor lanterns in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just fourteen designs. When Phil became ill in the 1930s he sold half the business to Stanley Wiedemer, a travelling salesman from Kansas City, and after Phil's death in 1937 Stanley bought the rest and moved his family to Cleveland to run the company. Stanley's grandson Rick joined the business in 1969, for a career spanning fifty years, and by the early 2000s a fourth generation of Wiedemers, Kristi, Jess and Eric, had begun taking on leadership roles. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs, including this Plantation flush, for the UK market, converting each fitting to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
