The Hinkley Plantation 2 Light Flush Fitting is a compact ceiling light that sits close to the ceiling, bringing the Plantation collection's pineapple shaped optic glass and cast brass detailing into a shape built for lower ceilings. It's the smallest fitting in the Plantation range, useful where a pendant or chandelier would hang too low.

Burnished brass and optic glass

The frame is solid brass with a burnished finish, a warm tone that sits between polished and aged brass. Leaf shaped cast detailing wraps around two pineapple shaped clear optic glass shades, the signature shape that runs through the whole Plantation collection. It pairs well with warm woods, aged metals and traditional colour schemes.

How it works

Two E27 bulbs sit inside the optic glass shades, sending light out through the glass rather than straight down. Bulbs aren't included, so you'll need to add two E27 bulbs to your order. The fitting is dimmable if you fit dimmable bulbs. It's a Class I fitting, which means it needs an earth connection. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Where it works best

Its flush profile suits hallways, landings, kitchens and dining rooms, especially where ceiling height is tight. The brass finish and glasswork read well close up, so it also works nicely over a table or in a smaller living room.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley began in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley started making outdoor lanterns from a small workshop in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just 14 designs. When Phil's health failed in the mid 1930s, Stanley Wiedemer, a travelling salesman from Kansas City, bought half the business, then bought the rest and moved his family to Cleveland after Phil died in 1937. The Wiedemer family has run the company ever since, with Stanley's grandson Rick spending fifty years at the helm from 1969, and the fourth generation, Kristi, Jess and Eric, taking on leadership roles from around 2000. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK and Europe, converting fittings like this Plantation flush light to 220 to 240V wiring and full CE certification.
