A grander doorway lantern with real presence
The Palma 2 Light Medium Wall Lantern takes Hinkley's pineapple motif and builds it into a larger fitting with two light positions, sized for entrances, porches and gateposts that need more scale than the smaller Palma lantern offers. In Burnished Bronze, it reads as a classic piece of exterior lighting rather than a passing trend.
Burnished Bronze finish and cast detail
The lantern body is cast aluminium, so the pineapple motif has real depth rather than a flat printed pattern. The Burnished Bronze finish sits over that casting to bring out the shape, and clear glass panels let the light spread instead of staying hidden behind the frame. It suits stone, brick and painted render, and sits well alongside other bronze or aged metal hardware nearby.
How it works
This lantern takes two E14 bulbs, which aren't included, so you can pick the wattage and colour temperature you want. Fit dimmable E14 bulbs if you'd like it on a dimmer circuit, since dimming depends on the bulb rather than the fitting. It's a Class I fitting, which means it needs an earth connection. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.
Where it works best
This is an outdoor fitting, rated IP44, so it copes with rain and damp air in a sheltered spot such as a porch, canopy or recessed doorway. It suits larger entrances, gateposts and porticos where a single small lantern would look undersized, and it works well in a pair either side of a wider door.
The story behind Hinkley
Hinkley's very first products, back in 1922, were exactly this kind of thing: outdoor lanterns, made by Phil R. Hinkley in Cleveland, Ohio, from a debut catalogue of just fourteen designs. The Palma sits in that same tradition of exterior lighting the company was built on, long before it took on ceiling fans and simplified its name from Hinkley Lighting to Hinkley around 2019 and 2020. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK, converting fittings like this one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification. It's a design line that runs from a small Ohio lantern maker to a doorway in the UK.
