The Palma 1 Light Small Wall Lantern takes the classic pineapple motif, a shape long used to say welcome, and casts it in solid aluminium with real depth and shadow. This is the small version of the Palma range, sized for a single lamp and for spaces where a larger lantern would feel too heavy. In Burnished Bronze, it reads as a traditional exterior fitting rather than a modern accent.

The body is cast aluminium finished in Burnished Bronze, with a clear glass panel that lets the single lamp show through. The bronze finish deepens the pineapple casting, picking out the ridges and giving the motif more presence than a flat painted surface would. It sits well against brick, stone or painted render, and pairs naturally with other bronze or aged metal hardware nearby.

How it works

The lantern takes one E27 LED lamp, which isn't included, so you'll need to add a suitable bulb to your order. It's dimmable, but only if you fit a dimmable LED bulb and pair it with a compatible dimmer switch. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting. It's a Class I fitting, which means it also needs to be properly earthed. It's designed for wall mounting, and as with other Palma pieces, it may need a little simple assembly on arrival.

The Palma Small is rated IP44, which makes it weatherproof enough for covered or exposed exterior spots such as porches, entrance pillars and gateposts. It's a good choice where you want a decorative lantern with real character rather than a plain functional light, especially on entrances with a traditional feel.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley began in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley started the company in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just 14 outdoor lantern designs. A small wall lantern like the Palma sits close to that original idea, a well made piece of exterior lighting rather than anything showier. The company passed through the Wiedemer family from the 1930s onward, and by around 2000 a fourth generation, Kristi, Jess and Eric Wiedemer, had begun taking on leadership roles. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK and Europe, converting fittings like this one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
