The Hinkley Miles single wall lantern brings a relaxed, transitional shape to an outdoor wall, with just enough nautical detail to work on a coastal cottage or a suburban semi alike. This Black version pairs a matte composite body with clear seeded glass, giving it a quieter, more understated look than a traditional ship's lantern.

Weather resistant composite in matte black

Miles is made from a weather resistant composite rather than cast metal, chosen to resist rust and corrosion outdoors, and finished here in a deep matte black. The clear seeded glass panel adds texture and catches the light without hiding the GU10 bulb behind it. The finish carries a 5 year warranty.

How it works

Miles takes a single GU10 LED bulb, which isn't included, so you'll need to add one when you order. It's a Class I fitting, which means it must be properly earthed. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley's very first catalogue in 1922 held just 14 products, and outdoor lanterns were where the Cleveland, Ohio company got its start under founder Phil R. Hinkley. Miles carries that same outdoor brief forward, reworked in a weather resistant composite that wouldn't have existed in Phil's day. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured Hinkley's outdoor ranges for the UK and Europe, converting fittings like this Black Miles lantern to 220 to 240V wiring and full CE certification.

Is the Hinkley Miles wall lantern dimmable? Yes, it works with a dimmer switch as long as you fit a dimmable GU10 LED bulb. A standard, non-dimmable bulb won't dim even on a dimmer circuit.

Does it come with a bulb? No, this fitting takes a single GU10 LED bulb which isn't included, so you'll need to buy one separately before it can be installed.

Can I use this lantern in a coastal or exposed location? Yes, its IP44 rating and weather resistant composite body are designed to cope with rain and salty air, so it suits exposed walls as well as more sheltered spots.
