The Meridian semi-flush brings the same low profile, faceted glass and simple silhouette as the rest of the Meridian collection, but it's built to sit close to the ceiling rather than project from the wall. Three lights behind the glass give a fuller, more even spread than the single wall light version, without looking bulky or ornate.

The glass here is cut in narrow facets, catching the light in small, soft glints rather than one strong shine. It sits against a Brushed Nickel finish on a mild steel frame, a tone with enough warmth to work well against both cool and warm colour schemes.

How it works

This semi-flush takes three G9 LED bulbs, 3W or equivalent, which are not included, so you will need to add these to your order. It's dimmable when used with dimmable bulbs, though a bulb that isn't dimmable will not dim on a dimmer switch. The fitting mounts close to the ceiling. It is wired to Class I, which means it needs to be earthed. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley began in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley started making outdoor lanterns in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just fourteen designs. Ownership passed to the Wiedemer family within two decades, first to Stanley in the 1930s, then in 1969 to his grandson Rick, who spent fifty years steering the company as its third generation. By around 2000, the fourth generation, Kristi, Jess and Eric Wiedemer, had begun taking on leadership roles, guiding the brand from its lantern origins toward pared back, architectural pieces like this Meridian semi-flush. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK, converting fittings such as this one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
