The Mayflower Single Wall Light brings the collection's traditional detailing down to a smaller scale without losing any of its character. Finished in Olde Bronze and glazed with glass that's etched on the inside to a warm amber tone, it throws a soft, gentle light rather than a sharp beam. The yoke mount and cast tension knob detailing give this single fitting the same period charm as the wider Mayflower range.

Olde Bronze is a warm, slightly aged tone that suits darker paint colours, wood and stone equally well. The mild steel frame carries etched amber glass on the inside, so light glows through gently rather than glaring, giving the fitting enough weight and texture to hold its own on a plain wall.

How it works

This light takes 1 x E27 bulb, which isn't included, so you'll need to add one to your order. It's dimmable if you fit dimmable LED bulbs. It's designed for wall mounting using the yoke bracket. The fitting is Class I, which means it needs to be properly earthed as part of installation. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Where it works best

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley began in 1922 as a small outdoor lantern maker in Cleveland, Ohio, founded by Phil R. Hinkley with a debut catalogue of just 14 products. When Phil became unwell with tuberculosis in the mid 1930s, he sold half the business to Stanley Wiedemer, a travelling salesman from Kansas City, and after Phil's death in 1937 Stanley bought the rest and moved his own family to Cleveland to run it. The company stayed with the Wiedemer family for generations, with Rick Wiedemer Jr joining in 1969 and a fourth generation, Kristi, Jess and Eric, taking on leadership roles from around 2000. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK and Europe, converting fittings like this one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification. There's something fitting about a single wall light like the Mayflower tracing back to a business that started small, with a handful of lantern designs to its name.
