A chandelier built to fill a grand room
The Mayflower 9 Light Chandelier is the largest fitting in Hinkley's Mayflower range, with nine arms of etched amber glass spreading out beneath an Olde Bronze frame. It is also a genuinely large fixture, with a height of 78.7cm, a diameter of 81.3cm, a drop that adjusts from 85.7cm up to 390.5cm, and a weight of 23kg. Please check these measurements, and your ceiling's ability to bear the weight, against your space before ordering. Because the Olde Bronze finish is hand rubbed onto the metalwork, colour can vary slightly from piece to piece, and it may also look a shade different on screen to how it looks in person.
An Olde Bronze finish with etched amber glass
The frame is mild steel finished in Olde Bronze, a warm, hand rubbed tone that reads as aged ironwork rather than anything shiny or modern. Each of the nine arms carries an inside etched amber glass shade, held in a traditional yoke mount with a decorative cast tension knob. Together they give the chandelier a period character that suits a traditional or transitional interior, and pairs naturally with dark wood, wrought iron and warm brass detailing elsewhere in the room.
How it works
This chandelier takes nine E27 bulbs, which are not included, so you'll need to add these separately. It's dimmable if you fit dimmable bulbs. It's a Class I fitting, which means it requires earthing as part of a correct installation. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting, and that they confirm your ceiling can safely support its weight before fixing it in place.
Where it works best
A nine light chandelier on this scale is built for rooms with height and space to match, think double height entrance halls, large dining rooms, or a wide staircase void. It also works well as the single statement piece in a living room with a high ceiling, where its amber glass and bronze ironwork can be seen properly from across the room.
The story behind Hinkley
Hinkley began in 1922 as a small outdoor lantern maker in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just fourteen products. A piece on the scale of this nine light Mayflower chandelier shows how far the company has grown since then. Stanley Wiedemer, a travelling salesman from Kansas City, bought into the business in the mid 1930s and took full ownership in 1937, moving his family to Cleveland to run it themselves. That family ownership has continued through four generations since, and pieces from the Hinkley range, including this one, have been manufactured and adapted for UK homes by Elstead Lighting since 2012, converting the wiring to 220 to 240V with full CE certification.

Will the Olde Bronze finish look exactly like the photos?
