The Huntersfield 2 Light Medium Pedestal Lantern is the freestanding member of the Huntersfield range, set on its own post rather than fixed to a wall or hung from a chain. It carries the same clean lines and clear seeded glass as the rest of the collection, but its job is to mark out a path, driveway or garden boundary rather than light a doorway.

It is made from aluminium and brass and finished in black, with clear seeded glass panels that soften the light and hide the bulb itself from view. Aluminium and brass sit well against stone, brick or timber, and both cope well with weather over time, which matters for a fitting that lives outside all year.

How it works

This is a two light fitting that takes 2 x E14 bulbs, not supplied, so you will need to add your own when you order. It is dimmable if you choose dimmable bulbs. It is wired to the mains and typically fixed to a prepared base or post rather than a wall. It is a Class I fitting, which means it needs to be properly earthed. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Rated IP44, it is built for life outdoors and copes well with rain and damp conditions. It works well lining a driveway, marking the start of a path, or standing at intervals along a garden boundary wall, anywhere a freestanding light makes more sense than one fixed to a wall.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley began in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley set up a small outdoor lantern maker in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just fourteen products. A pedestal lantern like this one sits close to that original idea, lighting for the outside of a home rather than the inside. Stanley Wiedemer took on the business in the 1930s and bought it outright in 1937, moving his family from Kansas City to Cleveland to run it, and his family has led the company ever since, across two more generations. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK and Europe, converting fittings like this one to 220 to 240 volt wiring with full CE certification.

Is this lantern dimmable? Yes. It works with dimmable bulbs, though standard bulbs will work too if you do not need dimming. Bulbs are not included, so choose a dimmable bulb if that is what you want.
