The Hollis Single Wall Light is a small scale fitting with a clear Art Deco influence. This black and clear seeded glass version pairs a slim steel frame with a softly textured glass shade, giving a single, focused pool of light that suits spots where a larger wall light would feel out of place.

The frame is steel finished in black, a flat, versatile tone that sits comfortably against most wall colours and other dark metalwork in a room. The shade is clear seeded glass, made using a technique that leaves tiny bubbles suspended in the glass, so light passing through has a gentle texture rather than a plain, uniform glow.

How it works

Hollis takes one E14 bulb, which is not supplied, so you will need to add one to your order. It is dimmable if you fit dimmable bulbs and pair it with a compatible dimmer switch. The fitting is wall mounted and wires to a standard wall box. It is rated Class I, which means it requires an earthed connection. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Where it works best

With an IP44 rating, this bathroom wall light is suitable for use in bathroom zone 2 and the outside zone under the bathroom lighting zones and regulations, so it can sit beside a mirror or basin. Its small scale also makes it a good fit for hallways, landings and bedrooms, whether used alone or as a pair either side of a mirror or doorway.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley began in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley started making outdoor lanterns in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just 14 pieces. The business stayed in the Wiedemer family for generations afterwards, with Stanley's grandson Rick joining in 1969 for a career that spanned fifty years, before the fourth generation, Kristi, Jess and Eric Wiedemer, began taking on leadership roles around 2000. A small, understated fitting like Hollis sits a long way from that first catalogue of lanterns, yet it carries the same family name. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has adapted Hinkley's designs, Hollis among them, for UK homes, converting them to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
