The frame is finished in a solid black that gives the piece a strong, versatile base, while each of the five clear seeded glass globes carries a gentle bubbled texture. That texture softens and scatters the light, so the fitting reads as warm and textured rather than stark. Black and clear glass together work well against most colour schemes, from pale walls to darker, moodier rooms.

How it works

Hollis takes 5 x E14 LED bulbs, which are not supplied, so you will need to add five to your order. It is dimmable if you fit dimmable bulbs. The fitting is Class I, which means it requires an earth connection. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Hollis carries an IP44 rating, so it is suitable for use in bathroom lighting zones and regulations covering zone 2 and outside zone. Its scale and retro globe styling also suit it well as a centrepiece over a dining table, in a hallway with a lower ceiling, or above a kitchen island.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley began in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley started out making outdoor lanterns in Cleveland, Ohio. Hollis's rounded, seeded glass globes echo that lantern heritage, even though this design has been reworked here as an indoor semi flush chandelier. The Wiedemer family took over not long after Phil's death in 1937, and three further generations kept the business in the family for decades. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured Hinkley's designs, including this Hollis chandelier, for the UK market, converting each fitting to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.

Is the Hollis 5 Light Chandelier dimmable? Yes, it works with a dimmer switch as long as you fit dimmable E14 bulbs. Standard, non dimmable bulbs will not dim even on a dimmer circuit.
