The Harper Medium Semi-Flush takes the classic semi flush ceiling light and gives it real scale. A wide polished chrome ring holds panels of clear seeded glass, each with a gentle, bubbled texture that catches the light rather than just diffusing it. It sits close to the ceiling but still reads as a proper centrepiece, not just a flush light filling a gap.

How it works

This semi flush fitting takes three E27 bulbs, which are not included, so you will need to add your own when you order. It is dimmable if you fit dimmable bulbs, and will not dim with standard bulbs. It is wired to Class I, which means it needs an earth connection. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

The Harper Medium suits kitchens and dining rooms with standard ceiling heights, where a semi flush light needs real presence but there isn't room, or height, for a full pendant or chandelier. The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley began in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley started a small outdoor lantern business in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just fourteen products. The seeded glass and metal ring on this semi flush fitting still carry a trace of that lantern making history, even in a fixture built for the ceiling rather than a porch. The company passed to the Wiedemer family from the 1930s onward, first to Stanley Wiedemer and then, from 1969, to his grandson Rick, whose career at Hinkley spanned fifty years. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has adapted Hinkley's designs, including this one, for UK wiring and CE certification, which is how the Harper range reaches Moonlight customers today.
