The Harper flush ceiling light sits close against the ceiling, its opal glass shade held inside a metal ring finished in Heritage Brass. This version pairs that warm brass tone with softly glowing opal glass, giving a traditional flush fitting a retro-inspired lift. It measures 40cm across and just 15.9cm high, so it suits rooms with lower ceilings.

The ring and decorative knobs are steel finished in Heritage Brass, a warm, slightly aged brass tone that reads as traditional rather than shiny. The opal etched glass shade sits within that ring and spreads light evenly rather than throwing it in one direction. Together they give Harper a look that sits comfortably in both period and contemporary rooms.

How it works

Harper takes 3 x E27 bulbs, which aren't supplied, so you'll want to add your own before it arrives. It's dimmable if you fit dimmable bulbs. As a flush fitting it's fixed directly against the ceiling rather than hanging on a rod or chain, which suits rooms where headroom is tight. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting. It's rated Class I, which means it needs an earthed supply.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley began in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley started making outdoor lanterns in Cleveland, Ohio, with just 14 products in his first catalogue. The Wiedemer family took over after Phil's death in 1937, and further generations, including Stanley's grandson Rick from 1969 and later Kristi, Jess and Eric from around 2000, carried the business forward. Along the way the range grew well beyond lanterns into fittings like this Harper flush light. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has adapted Hinkley's designs for UK and European homes, converting them to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.

Is the Harper flush ceiling light dimmable? Yes, as long as you fit dimmable E27 bulbs. With standard, non-dimmable bulbs it will not dim.

Do bulbs come included? No. Harper takes 3 x E27 bulbs, which you'll need to buy separately before it's installed.
