The Harper flush ceiling light brings a traditional flush mount up to date, with clear seeded glass framed by a metal ring and finished in Polished Chrome. In this variant the bright, reflective chrome sets off the pattern in the glass and gives the fitting a sleek, contemporary look while keeping that classic flush silhouette.

Harper is made from steel with clear seeded glass, so the light passing through has a subtle texture rather than being perfectly smooth. The Polished Chrome finish on the metal ring and decorative knobs has a bright, mirror like quality that works well against white ceilings and pairs easily with other chrome or glass fittings in a room.

How it works

This is a flush fitting, so it sits close against the ceiling rather than hanging down, which makes it a good option for rooms with lower ceilings. It takes 3 x E27 LED bulbs, which are not supplied, so you will need to add these to your order. It's a Class I fitting, which means it needs to be properly earthed. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Harper suits kitchens and dining rooms particularly well, and works just as easily in hallways, landings or bedrooms where a compact, close fitting ceiling light is needed. Because it sits flush, it's a practical choice wherever ceiling height is limited.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley began in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley started making lanterns in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just 14 products. When illness struck in the mid 1930s, he sold half the business to Stanley Wiedemer, a travelling salesman from Kansas City, and after Phil died in 1937, Stanley bought the rest and moved his own family to Cleveland to keep the company going. That family has stayed close to the business ever since: Stanley's grandson Rick joined in 1969, and by around 2000 the fourth generation, Kristi, Jess and Eric Wiedemer, were taking on leadership roles themselves. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has brought pieces like this Harper flush light to the UK, converting the wiring to 220 to 240V with full CE certification.

Is the Harper flush light dimmable? Yes, it works with a dimmer switch as long as you fit dimmable LED bulbs. Standard, non dimmable bulbs will not dim even on a dimmer circuit.

Do bulbs come with this light? No, bulbs are not included. Harper takes 3 x E27 LED bulbs, which you will need to buy separately.

How many bulbs does it take? It takes three E27 bulbs, held within the metal ring behind the clear seeded glass.
