A narrower way to the Hampton look

The Hampton single wall light takes the same rectangular frame and linen drum shade as the rest of the collection and brings it down to its smallest scale. At just 17.1cm wide, it fits into spaces where the two light version would crowd the wall, while still carrying the same understated, tailored look across the room.

Antique Nickel finish with a linen shade

This wall light is finished in Antique Nickel, with a frame in mild steel and an acrylic etched lens set into the base of the shade. The shade itself is off-white linen, giving the light a soft, warm glow rather than a hard beam. The muted metal tone works well against painted walls, wood panelling or wallpaper, and pairs easily with warm brass or nickel handles and fittings elsewhere in the room.

How it works

The Hampton single wall light takes one E27 bulb, which isn't included, so you'll need to add one when you order. It works with dimmer switches, as long as you fit dimmable LED bulbs. This fitting is Class I, which means it needs an earthed connection. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Where it works best

Its narrow footprint makes it a good fit for tighter wall spaces: a pair either side of a bed, flanking a hallway or landing mirror, or either side of a console table in a dining room or living room. Because it throws a softer, more focused pool of light than the two light version, it works well as accent lighting rather than a room's main source.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley started small. Phil R. Hinkley founded the company in Cleveland, Ohio in 1922, and its debut catalogue held just 14 outdoor lanterns. A single, compact wall light like this one sits closer to that original spirit than it might first seem: understated rather than showy, built to do one job well. The Wiedemer family has owned and run Hinkley since Stanley Wiedemer bought the business outright in 1937, with a third and now fourth generation carrying the company on. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has adapted Hinkley's designs, including this one, for the UK and Europe, converting the wiring to 220 to 240V and certifying it to CE standards.

Is the Hampton single wall light dimmable? Yes. It works with dimmer switches, but only if you fit dimmable LED bulbs. Standard, non dimmable bulbs will not dim smoothly and may flicker.
