The Hampton 2 Light Wall Light pairs a neat rectangular frame with an off-white linen drum shade, so the shape reads as modern while the shade keeps the light soft and warm. This two light version is sized for wall mounting, and works well in pairs either side of a mirror or spaced along a wall for a run of gentle light.

Antique Nickel finish and linen shade

The frame is made from mild steel and finished in Antique Nickel, a cool toned metal that sits comfortably alongside mixed metal fittings elsewhere in a room. At the base is a decorative acrylic etched lens, which catches and softens the light before it reaches the linen drum shade wrapped around the outside. Together the finish and the shade give Hampton a transitional look, equally at home in a traditional or a more contemporary room.

How it works

Each fitting takes 2 x E14 bulbs, which aren't included, so you'll need to add your own when you order. Fit dimmable bulbs if you want to use this light on a dimmer switch, since dimming depends on the bulbs rather than the fitting itself. This is a Class I fitting, which means it needs to be properly earthed as part of installation. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Where it works best

Hampton's compact size suits a pair either side of a bedroom dressing table mirror or a hallway mirror, or spaced along a dining room or living room wall for soft, even background light. The linen shade diffuses the glow enough to work as ambient lighting rather than a task light, so it's best paired with another light source for reading or close work.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley started out in 1922 as a small outdoor lantern maker in Cleveland, Ohio, founded by Phil R. Hinkley with a debut catalogue of just 14 products. Ownership passed within one family for decades, from Stanley Wiedemer buying into the business in the 1930s and taking full control in 1937, through three further generations of Wiedemers since. Around 2019 and 2020, as the company expanded into ceiling fans alongside lighting, it simplified its name from Hinkley Lighting to simply Hinkley. Hampton's indoor, transitional styling is a good example of how far the range has grown from that first catalogue of outdoor lanterns. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has brought designs like this one to the UK, converting them to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
