A slim flush fitting with a soft, even glow
Hadley is a retro styled flush ceiling fitting built around a single etched opal glass shade. In Oil Rubbed Bronze, it pairs a dark, warm toned frame with a glass shade that spreads light evenly across a room rather than casting sharp pools. Its slim profile sits close to the ceiling, which makes it a practical choice for rooms where headroom is tight.
Oil rubbed bronze finish
The frame is mild steel finished in Oil Rubbed Bronze, a deep, warm bronze tone that sits well against dark wood or warm metal accents. It carries a single piece of etched opal glass, which softens the light without dimming it too much. Hadley is also available in other finishes, so you can match it to fittings you already have elsewhere in the house.
How it works
Three E27 bulb positions sit behind the etched opal shade. Bulbs are not supplied, so you will need to add your own, and the fitting is dimmable if you choose dimmable bulbs. This is a Class I fitting, which means it requires an earth connection. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.
Where it works best
Hadley's flat, close fitting shape works well in kitchens, dining rooms and hallways, or anywhere ceiling height is limited. Its retro styling sits comfortably alongside both traditional and more pared back interiors.
The story behind Hinkley
Hinkley began in 1922 as a small outdoor lantern maker in Cleveland, Ohio, founded by Phil R. Hinkley with a debut catalogue of just fourteen products. Ownership passed to the Wiedemer family soon after, first through Stanley Wiedemer in the 1930s, then his grandson Rick, who joined the business in 1969 and stayed for fifty years. By the early 2000s a fourth generation, Kristi, Jess and Eric Wiedemer, had begun taking on leadership roles, and the company later simplified its name from Hinkley Lighting to simply Hinkley as it grew into new product categories. A fitting like Hadley, designed for kitchens and hallways rather than porches, shows how far the range has come from those first fourteen lanterns. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for UK wiring and CE certification, including this one.
