The Hinkley Gentry 4 Light Medium Pendant in Polished Nickel brings the collection's traditional candle silhouette to a cooler, brighter finish. Four separate lights sit around a cast steel frame, each behind a clear bent glass panel with its own candle sleeve and chaser. This is also a genuinely large fitting, with a drop that adjusts from 60cm up to 216.9cm, so it can sit low over a table or drop through a tall stairwell. Please check this range against your own ceiling height before ordering.
The Polished Nickel finish
Polished Nickel is the brightest and most reflective of the Gentry finishes, catching light across the cast frame and candle chasers rather than absorbing it. It pairs cleanly with the clear glass panels and sits well in a traditional room with existing brass or nickel hardware, or in a plainer, more contemporary space that wants a touch of period detail.
How it works
This medium pendant hangs from a ceiling rose on adjustable chain, and its four E27 fittings take LED bulbs, which are not supplied. It's dimmable if you fit dimmable bulbs, though it won't dim with standard ones. The fitting is Class I, so it must be earthed. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.
Where it works best
Its four points of light and long adjustable drop suit kitchen islands, dining tables and stairwells, where a single fitting needs to read well from more than one level. It works equally well as a lower pendant over a table or dropped through a double height void above a staircase.
The story behind Hinkley
Hinkley began in 1922 as a small outdoor lantern maker in Cleveland, Ohio, founded by Phil R. Hinkley with a debut catalogue of just 14 products. The candle style glass panels and cast chasers on Gentry still carry a trace of that lantern heritage, even in an indoor pendant like this one. When Phil became ill in the mid 1930s he sold half the business to Stanley Wiedemer, a travelling salesman from Kansas City, and after Phil's death in 1937 Stanley bought the remaining half and moved his family to Cleveland to run the company himself. Three further generations of Wiedemers have kept it a family business since. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has adapted Hinkley's designs, including this pendant, for UK wiring and CE certification.

Is this pendant dimmable? Yes, but only if you fit dimmable LED bulbs. Standard, non dimmable bulbs will not dim on a dimmer switch.
